Sculpture

Initially informed by a medical body cast from my early-stage breast cancer diagnosis, these sculptural works explore women’s lived and embodied experiences. Each one is a collaboration with – and composite portrait of – a specific woman. During the process of casting, in which the medical grade foam transforms from liquid to solid, the subject must lie inert, contained. To move beyond mere physical delineation, we engage during that time in a personal conversation and sharing of life stories that weaves its way into the subsequent sculptural surfaces.
